After their cute first self-made visual novel, Mangagamer brings us yet another ammolite title, focused on one particular fetish. Bitter Exclusion may seem like your typical mean, jealousy-inducing experience some crave. However, as you shall soon find out, it´s actually full of stuff many can enjoy.
Shouhei Kido is your ordinary high school student, happily living his life chatting with friends and “enjoying” class. Unfortunately, little does he know his whole classroom turns into a group sex once he left. Lead by Kaho and Aoi they secretly began to exclude him from their most enjoyable “after class” experience, since they despise him for some reason, actively mocking him behind his back.
Doesn´t sound really pleasant, does it? Especially earlier on Bitter Exclusion solely revolves around the hate towards Shouhei and how he´s left out. Naturally, this appeals to a whole own audience and you should at least not hate Netorare for example, in order to enjoy it nonetheless. Due to the fact the game is either told through the eyes of Shouhei or your classical “narrator” during sex scenes, it actually does a really good job at capturing this feeling during casual talks in-between the various scenes. Generally speaking, I found this story way more appealing than pretty much any other title from ammolite, mainly because it actually has a rather unique premise.
Normally, most dialogues revolve around delivering excuses to have sex or stupid jokes like in Sweet Switch, Bitter Exclusion on the other hand really tries to achieve a goal with them: Jealousy and does it rather well. Additionally, there´s also the whole mystery why everyone hates our main character but well, it´s nothing revolutionary and what you would expect, making this a bit boring the second half. Nonetheless, if you can accept the premise and play along or even are into this setting, ammolite does an exceptional job (compared to their normal standards in this area) at capturing it, which I can appreciate.
So let´s talk about the real “meat” of the Eroge, the two heroines and their sex parties. Naturally, many scenes will be group sex, I mean, that´s the whole idea. Throughout Bitter Exclusion there will be a huge variety of them, covering nearly every fetish you could think of, without getting too extreme, they´re all high- schoolers after all, so there won´t be too many truly humiliating things. Instead, it aims, like many other ammolite titles, to deliver an experience which is both enjoyable for vanilla fans and more “hardcore” fans.
This trend continues with the two heroines in particular. This time they don´t suffer from any absurd “sickness” like getting horny from stares, instead, they seem more like your typical stereotypes underneath their mean cover. Once again we have the busty, self-confident president who´s responsible for all the calamities befalling Shouhei for seemingly no reason and that´s reflected in her scenes as well. From the group sex she surprisingly enjoys a lot, to the more private scenes, later on, she could be described as a more advanced Sara from Sweet Switch, making her a pretty fun and kinky character.
On the other hand, the same can be said about Aoi, your seemingly shy girl. However, what I especially enjoyed about her is her dark/sex-loving side, that occasionally pops out, giving her a whole lot more personality than I anticipated. She actually mixes both stereotypes together to create a pretty unique feeling when she´s on screen, from which the group scenes profited in particular. Since she´s not as busty as Kaho, her proportions are also a whole lot more reasonable and combined with her more private attitude in solo sex, she became a really versatile and partly realistic character and I honestly didn´t expect that.
Generally speaking, I think I enjoyed Bitter Exclusion a whole lot because it offers a unique premise with neat execution. It´s largely about jealousy but also enjoyment and fun, as weird as that might sound and reflects these themes in the versatile sex scenes as well. At the same time, the dynamic between the gangbangs behind Shouhei´s back and the “revenge” parts if you want to call them like that, is way more interesting than many of ammolite´s previous works, because the few hours of playtime never get boring.
Unfortunately, once again the whole thing gets a bit dragged down by the fact Bitter Exclusion has mosaics without any way of removing them. At least someone like me who prefers such games completely uncensored was never a big fan of that. Otherwise, you get the typical ammolite quality with very high-quality CGs, voice acting and surprising amount of content for the price. Topped off by Mangagamer´s great localization it´s a true bang for the buck.
Bitter Exclusion may be one of my favourite ammolite titles so far, offering far more “depth” than any of their previous work and a quite interesting main theme. If you´re into a not-so light-hearted experience after Sweet Switch or just searching for a cheaper in-between title, this Eroge is definitely something yo shouldn´t miss for the price.
